Vilja Solutions, a provider of cloud-based core banking platform, has selected Kuala Lumpur as its ASEAN headquarters, marking its expansion into the region.
Around 60 digital banking industry leaders from Malaysia gathered at the event, joined by Swedish and Malaysian government representatives.
Swedish Ambassador to Malaysia, H.E. Niklas Wiberg expressed support for Vilja’s initiative and highlighting the importance of promoting innovation that drives economic growth and financial inclusion.
His remarks underscored the significance of international collaboration in advancing the region’s financial landscape.
Ruslena Ramli, Director of Fintech & Islamic Digital Economy at MDEC, also welcomed Vilja’s choice of Kuala Lumpur for its regional headquarters, emphasizing Malaysia’s role as a growing technology hub for ASEAN and the broader APAC region.
She noted the importance of attracting global tech leaders like Vilja to accelerate the country’s digital economy.
During the event, Vilja signed partnerships with four Malaysian companies—InsiteMY, Neurogine, Finology, and RC Technology—to deliver its banking solutions across the region.
Vilja’s core banking platform, which offers modular, cloud-native solutions for deposit and lending operations, was developed by one of Europe’s first digital banks.
The platform is highly automated and configurable, providing rapid time-to-market and operational efficiency.
This technology will be key to Vilja’s plans to serve both existing and future customers in ASEAN.
Additionally, Vilja took the lead in a new initiative announced by MDEC and the Fintech Association of Malaysia (FAOM).
The collaboration between Malaysia and Nordic fintech associations aims to enhance fintech partnerships, with Vilja playing a central role in driving the exchange of expertise and solutions.
This initiative will kick off with a delegation of Malaysian tech startups and industry leaders visiting Helsinki and Stockholm in November.
Fredrik Ulvenholm, CEO of Vilja said,
“We have come to Malaysia to stay and grow in ASEAN and beyond together with our Malaysian partners. We believe ASEAN is the next global growth guarantor and that Malaysia offers the best springboard to the region and wider APAC as Malaysia enjoys a unique cultural DNA, advanced economy and an international talent pool.”
Juan Carlos Mauritz, Managing Director APAC, Vilja, added,
“With our Malaysian partners we are already meeting with banks and financial institutions across ASEAN, this is a testimony to Malaysian prowess as a regional hub as well as for the clear market need for our solution.Working together with the best local partners will make our world leading technology available to further enable ASEAN banking industry to reach underserved segments of the economy.”
The Kuala Lumpur event followed Vilja’s first ASEAN launch in Bangkok on 16 September where the company formed several strategic partnerships to further expand its digital banking solutions in Thailand.
