SBI Holdings has completed its acquisition of a majority stake in crypto platform Coinhako after receiving approval from the Monetary Authority of Singapore.
The Japanese financial group completed a capital injection and acquired shares from existing shareholders through its Singapore subsidiary, SBI Ventures Asset.
Coinhako is now a consolidated subsidiary of SBI Holdings.
The Coinhako Group primarily operates through Hako Technology, which holds a Major Payment Institution licence from the Monetary Authority of Singapore.
The group also operates Alpha Hako, a crypto asset service provider registered with the British Virgin Islands Financial Services Commission.
The acquisition supports SBI Holdings’ broader digital asset strategy in Singapore and across the Asia-Pacific region.
SBI plans to connect Coinhako with its wider crypto and digital finance infrastructure as it develops services linking Japan and Southeast Asia.
It also intends to enhance its crypto trading services and explore opportunities in tokenisation, stablecoins, on-chain finance and cross-border transactions, subject to local regulations.

Coinhako Co-founder and CEO Yusho Liu said,
“With SBI’s backing, we now have the institutional scale, the ecosystem, and the mandate to deliver the next generation of digital financial services to our customers across the region. This is just the beginning.”

Yoshitaka Kitao, Representative Director, Chairman, President and Chief Executive of SBI Holdings, said,
“I am truly delighted to welcome Coinhako, which possesses a rock-solid customer base and deep operational expertise, to the SBI Group.
By swiftly unlocking a wide range of mutual synergies—including our initiatives around JPYSC—we are committed to delivering next-generation financial services to the market without delay.”
