Singapore’s Minister for Digital Development and Information Josephine Teo called for careful testing of AI agents before they are deployed across business operations.
Speaking at IBM Think on Tour Singapore, Teo noted that existing risk frameworks were largely designed for systems where humans remain involved in decision-making.
“But when you use agents, when agents are designed to make decisions on behalf of humans, the kinds of errors, risks, and safety issues that arise, are honestly not completely well understood.
It will be quite a long time before we fully appreciate the range of problems that could be created when agents are unleashed,”
she said.
Teo stressed the need to clearly define the purpose of each agent, design appropriate controls and prepare measures to contain problems when they arise.
Singapore plans to work with technology companies and other partners to learn from real-world deployments and improve testing methods before the systems are widely introduced.
The government has placed trust and governance at the centre of its approach as businesses begin moving autonomous tools from experimentation into daily operations.
