6 Upcoming Fintech Hackathons in Singapore and Hong Kong

Hackathons, design sprint-like events in which programmers and others collaborate intensively on software projects, are surging in popularity in the fintech and blockchain spaces as banks and firms are looking for bright minds to help them build innovative products and services.

Here are six fintech hackathons taking place in Hong Kong and Singapore, two of Asia’s largest financial hubs, in the coming months:

 

Hong Kong Blockchain Regtech Contest

June 23 – 24, 2018

The Hong Kong Blockchain Regtech Contest is an event organized by blockchain regtech company QRC. The full-day event will feature a challenge relating to a real-world implementation of blockchain technology in the area of regulation and compliance. In particular, the team will be tasked to create a royalty token that facilitates the registration and usage of intellectual property, royalty payouts, and transfer of ownership.

The event is targeted at programmers, data scientists, business people, and hackers looking to solve some of the most pressing and interesting problems in blockchain and compliance with new and rapidly changing data security regulations.

The 1st place winning team will receive a cash price of HK$6,000, the 2nd place HK$3,000, and the 3rd place HK$1,000. All participants will receive a free tech gift.

 

AngelHack Singapore Hackathon 2018

June 23 – 24, 2018

TheHive Lavender, Singapore

Every year, AngelHack adventures across the globe for its yearly Global Hackathon series. On June 23 and 24, 2018, AngelHack will come to Singapore. This year’s theme will focus on “Seamless Technology” and

welcome teams that are looing to solve a social or environmental problem and positively impact the global supply chain.

The event is targeted at developers looking to improve their skills or expand their horizons, students, designers of all skill-sets, and serious entrepreneurs that can add value to teams.

The overall winners of the city challenges will win US$7,500 in cash price for the first place, and US$2,500 for the second place.

The winning teams will also receive an invite into AngelHack’s HACKcelerator program. The HACKcelerator is a 12-week virtual accelerator only open to hackathon winning teams. At the end of the program, select teams will be flown to San Francisco for Global Demo Day and the opportunity to pitch their new startups to a room of investors.

 

AWS Hackdays Singapore

AWS Hackdays is competition organized by Amazon focused on building innovative solutions that use artificial intelligence and machine learning in the areas of transportation, e-commerce, fintech, and media and entertainment. This year, the AWS Hackdays events will take place in six cities including Singapore.

In order to take part in the challenge, each team needs to register on this platform, form a team from 2 to 4 people and submit their application documents before June 23. The first selection phase will focus on whether the idea is innovative and its integration with AWS Machine Learning services.

If selected, the teams will be invited to take part in one of the 12-hour hackathons organized across the region. The Singapore hackathon will take place on June 30, 2018. From there, the teams will have 12 hours to develop a working demo of their solution as well as a pitch detailing the value proposition and problem solved. At the end of the hacking time, each team will have 5-10 minutes to pitch their concept.

FinHACK

July 06 – 08, 2018

WeStart HK, 6/F, KOHO, 75 Hung To Road, Hong Kong

FinHACK, a  36-hour fintech hackathon organized by WHub and Societe Generale, will be held between July 6 and 8, 2018. The event will focus on developing innovative fintech product, and the best ones have the opportunity to emerged as new products and services.

The event is targeted at students, game changers, entrepreneurs, and developers interested in the areas of fintech, insurtech, regtech, artificial intelligence, but also UX designers, coders, idea generators, marketers, and data scientists.

The winning team will receive HK$25,000 in cash prize and winners gain access to a network of innovators and mentors.

 

 

AngelHack Hong Kong Hackathon 2018

On July 07 – 08, 2018, AngelHack 2018 will be heading to Hong Kong as part of its annual global hackathon series. This year’s theme will focus on “Seamless Technology” and welcomes teams that are looing to solve a social or environmental problem and positively impact the global supply chain.
