The Singapore Police Force (SPF) will now use 6000 0999 for all outgoing calls as part of efforts to combat police impersonation scams.
The measure took effect on 2 November 2026, making SPF the first Singapore Government agency to adopt a single outgoing caller ID.
The initiative was jointly developed by SPF, Open Government Products (OGP), the Ministry of Digital Development and Information (MDDI) and the Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA).
It replaces the different office and mobile numbers previously used by police officers.
Police impersonation scams accounted for at least 1,310 reported cases and S$53.3 million in losses from January to September 2026.
Under the new system, recipients will receive an automated SMS from the official “gov.sg” sender ID after each call, with information on how to contact SPF.
The number will only be used for phone calls, not messages through WhatsApp or Telegram.
Public Urged to Verify Unexpected Calls
The government plans to extend similar measures to other agencies to make official calls easier to verify.
SPF warned that scammers may know personal details such as names or NRIC numbers and urged the public to verify unexpected calls.
Government officials will never request money or cryptocurrency transfers, banking login credentials or the installation of applications from unofficial app stores over the phone.
Members of the public can check suspicious calls through official channels or contact the 24-hour ScamShield Helpline at 1799.
