Australian-born fintech unicorn Airwallex has launched Airwallex Impact, a global social impact programme underpinned by a 1% equity pledge, currently valued at over US$56 million.
This commitment ensures a sustainable source of funding as its value grows with the company, aligning Airwallex with the Pledge 1% movement.
The company joins the likes of Atlassian, Canva, Salesforce, Airbnb, Okta, and Reddit in dedicating resources to social causes with the Pledge 1% movement,
Airwallex Impact will focus on providing scholarships, financial operations training, and startup incubation programmes.
The company will also expand its existing initiatives, such as the Airwallex for Startups programme, which offers resources and networking opportunities to over 2,000 startups globally.
To date, Airwallex has hosted over 50 events aimed at cultivating startup success.
Furthermore, Airwallex employees will dedicate three days per year to volunteering, contributing their expertise to community service and mentorship programmes.
Two of these days will be focused on service in partnership with Airwallex Impact initiatives, while one day can be dedicated to any not-for-profit organisation the employee chooses.
The company has previously donated AU$3 million to the University of Melbourne, funding 43 scholarships, with 56% of recipients being international students.
An additional AU$150,000 grant provided financial assistance to 65 students. Airwallex has also provided grants and mentorship to early-stage startups, particularly in the AI and fintech sectors, and has been a pro-bono mentor through Australia’s Techstars incubator programme.
In mid-2025, Airwallex will also roll out a programme offering discounted products to select non-profit organisations.
“As Airwallex enters our 10th year as a business, the time is right to build on our community initiatives to date and commit to an enduring impact programme.
Purpose is at the core of Airwallex’s mission – we exist to help businesses thrive, and this work is a natural extension of our dedication to innovation and economic development in the countries where we operate. I’m excited for our company to join the Pledge 1% community.”
