Nium has launched domestic card issuance in the United States, extending its multi-region issuing platform to North America.
Businesses can now issue local cards across APAC, Europe, the Middle East and North America, while keeping access to Nium’s payment network spanning more than 190 countries, all through a single platform.
Nium said businesses expanding across borders often end up managing separate card issuers, integrations and compliance processes for each country or region, and that its unified platform is designed to remove that fragmentation.
The company reports issuing more than 41 million card credentials across APAC, the Middle East and Europe over the past 12 months.
Businesses already using Nium-issued cards elsewhere can now extend their programmes into the US, and existing US-based businesses can access the same infrastructure.
Rob Regan
“The virtual cards market is projected to reach $15.14 trillion by 2031, with North America representing roughly 45 percent of that growth,” said Rob Regan, EVP of Americas at Nium. “US card issuance gives businesses the infrastructure to capture that opportunity, pairing local economics with global scale.”
Visa’s Head of US Enablement, Bill Dobbins, said the expansion into domestic issuing meaningfully simplifies how businesses scale and operate globally.
Nium’s just-in-time funding model, already popular with businesses in APAC and Europe for improving cash flow, is now available in the US.
The platform supports single-use and multi-use cards, in both physical and virtual form, for use cases spanning supplier payments, expense management, loyalty rewards, tuition payments and employee incentives.
Travel is one sector Nium expects to benefit from the expansion.
A single travel booking often involves several vendors with different payment preferences, hotels typically prefer virtual cards, airlines require centralised settlement, and ground operators need bank transfers, so Nium’s unified platform lets travel businesses issue cards and manage payouts across regions from one system.
Yael Klein
“We’ve built this platform for how travel actually moves money,” said Yael Klein, SVP of Travel at Nium. “Bringing card issuance to the US is the natural next step for the travel businesses that already run on Nium across APAC and Europe.”
