Mastercard has split its Southeast Asia leadership into two divisions and appointed Beena Pothen to oversee Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Brunei and Myanmar.
As Division President for West Southeast Asia, she will manage markets with different economic conditions and levels of digital development.
Pothen previously served as Country Manager for Malaysia and Brunei, working with governments, financial institutions and industry stakeholders on digital payment initiatives.

Richard Wormald, President of Asia Pacific at Mastercard, said,
“Across Asia Pacific, AI-enabled commerce, digital wallets, tokenisation and new payment experiences are reshaping commerce in real time.”

Pothen said,
“I am energized to lead Mastercard across West Southeast Asia — a diverse and deeply sophisticated set of markets with strong payments foundations, ambitious customers and exceptional teams.
What inspires me most is the opportunity to build from a position of strength: deepening trusted partnerships, bringing the best of Mastercard’s capabilities to market and helping shape the next chapter of digital commerce for businesses, governments and consumers.”
The move is part of a series of recent senior leadership appointments by Mastercard in Asia Pacific.
