Singapore-based Sea employees are set to use MariBank for salary crediting from October, although exceptions are available in certain circumstances.
MariBank is the digital bank owned by Sea. The Straits Times reported that employees were informed of the change earlier in September.
An internal memo described MariBank as the mandatory salary crediting bank for staff in Singapore.
Separate guidance, however, states that employees with personal circumstances for keeping another salary account can raise the matter with human resources.
Sea is offering a S$100 Shopee voucher to employees who updated their salary details by 17 September, including those already receiving their salaries through MariBank.
Eligible staff can also access preferential offers on certain MariBank personal loans.
Similar salary arrangements exist at some banks in Singapore, although policies vary.
UOB and Standard Chartered require staff to use accounts with their respective banks for salary crediting, while GXS and DBS do not impose the same requirement.
The Ministry of Manpower said employers must pay salaries in full and on time and should engage employees on available payment options.
The Monetary Authority of Singapore added that banks are expected to comply with applicable employment laws and address staff concerns over employment terms.
