Shoppers in India can now pay through Apple Pay using eligible Axis Bank credit cards.
The service supports Visa and Mastercard credit cards issued by the bank for payments in stores, in apps and online.
Apple has made it available on iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch, with Mac support coming soon.

“India is home to a dynamic and digitally savvy population that continues to embrace a cashless future while expecting the highest standards of security and privacy, and we’re so excited to bring Apple Pay to users in India today.
Apple Pay makes everyday payments with a card easy, secure, and private — from simply tapping to pay in stores without an extra app, PIN, or OTP to checking out online without repeatedly entering payment information.”
said Jennifer Bailey, Apple’s Vice President of Apple Pay and Apple Wallet.
Customers can add their cards through the latest version of the Axis Bank app or Apple Wallet and continue earning their existing rewards and benefits.
Apple Pay uses a unique encrypted Device Account Number stored in the device’s Secure Element.
Actual card numbers are not stored on the device or Apple servers, nor shared by Apple with merchants.
The company does not retain transaction information that can be linked to users.
Customers can use Find My to locate or lock a lost or stolen iPhone, or suspend payments from it.
Millions of merchants across India will accept the service at launch, including Apple Stores, Blinkit, Croma, Ixigo, Tata 1mg and Zomato.
Payment providers including BillDesk, Cashfree, Juspay, Paytm, PayU, Pine Labs and Razorpay have worked with Apple to enable acceptance across their merchant networks, with more merchants and apps expected to follow.
Apple Pay is available in more than 90 countries and regions and works with over 11,000 bank and network partners worldwide.
