Adyen has marked ten years as a payments partner to digital travel platform Agoda.
The firm is currently Agoda’s payments acquirer across APAC, Europe and the US, and the two companies are exploring whether to extend the partnership into issuing and payouts.
The partnership began in 2015, when Agoda was accelerating its mobile-first strategy in Asia.
Agoda has since grown into a global, multi-product travel platform, and its payment needs have become more layered as it entered new markets.
According to the companies, Adyen has worked to widen Agoda’s currency selection and to find ways to improve payment performance while reducing costs.
That work covers support for local payment methods, so travellers can pay their preferred way in each market, and streamlined authentication for genuine bookings to reduce friction at checkout.
Adyen routes Agoda’s transactions to improve authorisation rates and overall reliability.

“At Agoda’s scale, improvements in how payments are routed, authorised and settled can have a meaningful impact on performance and the traveller experience,”
said Kai Tang, Head of Hong Kong, Adyen.

“There are strong synergies around performance enhancement, whether that’s making payments easier, increasing reliability, or improving overall experience,”
said Oliver Webster, Chief Financial Officer, Agoda.
The companies said they are exploring how to take the partnership further, including opportunities in issuing and payouts in supported markets, as Agoda continues to invest in customer experience and emerging technology.
