JCB International has signed a MoU with Hanoi Metro to introduce JCB contactless fare payments on the city’s urban railway network.
JCB aims to launch the service, known as JCB transit, in early 2027.
It will allow JCB cardholders to tap their contactless cards or compatible devices directly at metro fare gates without purchasing separate tickets or carrying cash.
JCB said the service would particularly benefit international visitors from Japan, South Korea, Taiwan and other markets, allowing them to use a familiar payment method when travelling on Hanoi’s metro network.
The collaboration forms part of JCB’s efforts to expand contactless payments across public transport networks and support the adoption of cashless payments in Vietnam.

“We hope this service will provide greater convenience to JCB Cardmembers and contribute to the development of a modern and cashless public transportation ecosystem in Vietnam,”
said Takumi Takahashi, Executive Vice President of JCB International.
JCB has also expanded its contactless transit payments to other metro networks.
Earlier this year, the card scheme introduced contactless payments on Taipei Metro, while Metro de Madrid and LA Metro also accept JCB contactless cards.
Hanoi Metro began operating Line 2A, Vietnam’s first metro line, in November 2021.
