Glossary
EXPLICIT — The company itself has named AI, automation or machine learning as a factor behind the cuts, whether in a formal announcement, a regulatory filing, an earnings call, or on-the-record remarks from leadership.
REPORTED — One or more reputable outlets (wire services, major business titles, or established trade press) have attributed the layoffs principally to AI based on their own reporting, internal sources, or pattern analysis, even where the company has not confirmed the link publicly.
MIXED — AI sits alongside other substantive drivers such as restructuring, weaker market conditions, or broader cost discipline. The reduction is influenced by AI but cannot be attributed to it alone.
Jobs lost — The number of roles cut in the announced action. When companies disclose a range, we record the midpoint. Values shown with a tilde (~) are estimates derived from reporting rather than confirmed figures.
Running total — The cumulative number of jobs cut at a given company across every entry we have tracked for that firm.
Workforce % — The running total expressed as a share of the company’s most recent publicly reported headcount. Entries marked “n/a” mean either the headcount figure is unavailable or the calculation does not apply.
