Amazon Web Services (AWS) has launched a new infrastructure region in Thailand.
The AWS Asia Pacific (Thailand) Region will allow customers to run applications and serve end users from data centers located within the country.
AWS plans to invest over US$5 billion in Thailand, contributing an estimated US$10 billion to the country’s GDP and supporting over 11,000 full-time equivalent jobs annually.
These roles include positions in construction, facility maintenance, engineering, telecommunications, and other sectors across AWS’ supply chain.
The new region will feature three distinct Availability Zones, designed to ensure fault tolerance and business continuity.
Each zone operates independently with separate power, cooling, and security, while being connected by ultra-low-latency networks.
This setup enables businesses to design highly available and resilient applications.
The new region will offer lower latency for users in Thailand and across Asia Pacific, and provide customers with access to a wide range of AWS services, including analytics, compute, database, and machine learning.
Numerous organisations in Thailand, including Bank of Ayudhya, Charoen Pokphand Group, the Stock Exchange of Thailand, and KASIKORN Business-Technology Group, are already using AWS services.
Public sector entities such as the Digital Government Development Agency and startups like BODA Technology & Consultancy also rely on AWS to innovate and scale.
This launch is part of AWS’s ongoing investment in Thailand, which includes edge locations, AWS Outposts, and AWS Local Zones.
Since 2020, AWS has introduced six Amazon CloudFront edge locations and AWS Local Zones in Bangkok to support applications requiring low-latency connections.
AWS is also committed to upskilling the Thai workforce through programs like AWS Academy, which provides cloud computing curriculum to educational institutions.
To date, AWS has trained over 50,000 individuals in Thailand through initiatives like AWS Skills to Jobs Tech Alliance and the “Tech for Digital Future” programme aimed at high school and vocational students.
The new region is also part of Amazon’s commitment to sustainability, with AWS infrastructure designed for energy efficiency and carbon footprint reduction.
As part of The Climate Pledge, Amazon aims to reach net-zero carbon emissions by 2040, leveraging innovations in data center efficiency and renewable energy to achieve this goal.
“I would like to extend my appreciation to Amazon Web Services for investing in the development of data centers in Thailand. I am pleased that Thailand’s potential and readiness have been recognized by one of the world’s leading companies.
I look forward to AWS playing a pivotal role, in partnership with the government, in advancing Thailand toward a more inclusive digital society and expanding access to digital services for all citizens.”
said Paetongtarn Shinawatra, Prime Minister of Thailand.
“This new AWS Region in Thailand will help customers across all industries deploy advanced applications with a broad set of AWS technologies that offer both core cloud capabilities, such as compute, storage, analytics, and networking, and services that enable customers to rapidly evolve, such as artificial intelligence and machine learning.
With today’s launch, AWS is proud to support Thailand’s digital transformation and help accelerate its role as a regional hub for artificial intelligence.”
said Prasad Kalyanaraman, Vice President of Infrastructure Services at AWS.
