A new fintech course by the Centre for Finance, Technology and Entrepreneurship (CFTE) is bringing together industry experts to share unique insights into the sector and tackle some of the hottest trends and topics.
Called Around Fintech In 8 Hours, the online structured course consists of 16 modules ranging from “Why is finance being transformed today” to an overview of technologies such as blockchain, mobile technology and cloud computing.
It features experts and senior leaders from the largest institutions such as HSBC, Citi, Ping An, as well as startup CEOs and renowned academics.

The course is targeted at professionals in finance, technologists, entrepreneurs and those in professional services who want to understand how banks, insurers and startups are using financial technologies.
Tram Anh Nguyen, co-founder of CFTE said they designed Around Fintech in 8 Hours to “guide professionals and to help them build the right foundations so they can thrive in a new world of digital finance.”
The course was developed with four experts who launched fintech initiatives themselves at Oxford Said Business School, Imperial College, Hong Kong University and Singapore Management University.
They are Huy Nguyen Trieu, CEO of the Disruptive Group, co-founder of CFTE and an associate fellow at the University of Oxford;
Janos Barberis, founder of SuperCharger and a research fellow at the Hong Kong University;
Daniel Liebau, founder of Lightbulb Capital and an instructor of Fintech and Innovation at the Singapore Management University;
Andrei Kirilenko, Director of the Centre for Global Finance & Technology at Imperial College London.
The 16 modules are divided in four chapters:
Chapter 1, called What is Fintech, looks into the state of the financial system today and how fintech is changing the industry. The modules are:
- Module 1: Overview of the changes happening in finance
- Module 2: Why is finance being transformed today?
- Module 3: A framework to understand Fintech innovation
- Module 4: Examples of latest Fintech innovations
Chapter 2, called Overview of technologies impacting finance, focuses on the technology aspect of fintech and explores some of the key technologies that are impacting the financial services industry. The modules are:
- Module 5: The importance of technology in finance
- Module 6: The mobile revolution
- Module 7: Cloud computing
- Module 8: Blockchain
Chapter 3, called Deep dive: from Challenger Banks to ICOs, analyzes new fintech areas and trends that are impacting the sector. The modules are:
- Module 9: Challenger Banks
- Module 10: Payment systems
- Module 11: Peer to peer lending
- Module 12: ICOs and cryptocurrencies
Chapter 4, called Who’s behind Fintech, examines the companies, startups and banks that are driving the fintech revolution as well as the invertors funding these projects. The modules are:
- Module 13: Fintech startups
- Module 14: Innovation in large Financial Services firms
- Module 15: Investing in Fintech
- Module 16: The Finance 2.0 opportunity
Participants who successfully pass all the modules with a grade of 80% or more receive a Certificate of Completion. The Certificate of Completion is digitally certified and has a unique URL which can be shared on multiple platforms including LinkedIn.
