The Monetary Authority of Singapore‘s (MAS) Managing Director Ravi Menon was bestowed the Distinguished Leadership and Service Award from the Institute of International Finance (IIF).
The award is given to individuals who have made significant contributions to the global economy through public service.
Previous recipients include President of Singapore Tharman Shanmugaratnam, European Central Bank President Christine Lagarde, former Bank of England Governor Mark Carney, and Indonesian Finance Minister Sri Mulyani Indrawati.
Following 29 years of service at MAS, Menon will be retiring at the end of this year and he will be succeeded by Chia Der Jiun as the Managing Director Designate on 1 November 2023.
Menon played a pivotal role in positioning Singapore as a leading fintech hub where he steered the growth of Singapore’s electronic payment ecosystem, initiated a regulatory sandbox to promote experimentation, and oversaw the introduction of digital banking licenses.
Menon said,
“I am honoured and humbled to receive this award: honoured because of the high standing that the IIF enjoys as the leading global association of the financial industry; and humbled because I know how much I owe this award to my colleagues at the MAS, my counterparts in the international regulatory community, and the leaders of the financial industry in Singapore and elsewhere.”
