Thailand’s Bank of Ayudhya Public Company Limited, commonly known as Krungsri Bank, has selected Amazon Web Services (AWS) to power its digital transformation efforts.
Ranking among the top five banks in Thailand, Krungsri is working with AWS to leverage data analytics, machine learning (ML), and artificial intelligence (AI) to improve its services.
These technologies enable more efficient, personalised banking solutions, reportedly 60% more effective than previous methods. Cost savings from these efficiencies will be reinvested into creating new, innovative products.
Traditionally, Krungsri’s departments such as auto loans, credit cards, and asset management operated in isolation and this hindered the bank’s goal to expand their customer base to 15 million in three years, with a focus on digital banking.
To address this, Krungsri has embraced Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (Amazon EC2) and a business intelligence solution using Tableau on Amazon EC2. This shift facilitates better decision-making across the organisation as well as offers a 360-degree view of retail customers through a comprehensive data platform on AWS.
The bank’s cloud data platform is a cornerstone in its strategy to enhance the customer experience using ML. One notable application is optimising cash delivery routes to Krungsri’s 6,000 ATMs across Thailand. This ML-driven approach is expected to reduce fuel costs and improve cash availability.
Additionally, Krungsri aims to use ML for assessing loan risks, targeting customers without traditional financial documentation in a country where approximately 7.5% of adults are unbanked or underbanked.
The bank is also exploring generative AI projects in collaboration with AWS, focusing on driving innovation and productivity.
AWS’s commitment to Thailand includes a pledge to invest over $5 billion in 15 years and training 50,000 individuals in cloud skills.
“Our digital transformation into an AI-driven bank with AWS is helping us better serve our growing base of digitally savvy customers while also helping our underserved communities build financial resilience.
Our enterprise data platform on AWS brings all our subsidiaries together and helps them build digital and more inclusive financial services using data analytics and machine learning. We’re particularly excited about collaborating with AWS to pursue generative AI projects to unlock efficiencies, optimise costs, and drive product innovation.”
said Tul Roteseree, Head of Data and Analytics Division at Bank of Ayudhaya PCL.
“Lenders in Thailand are digitally transforming to better serve a broader base of new customers using cloud and AI technologies.
With AWS’s generative AI and machine learning capabilities at the forefront, Krungsri can make faster business decisions, deliver more compelling services for its Thai customers, and help the unbanked become more financially secure and included.”
said Vatsun Thirapatarapong, Country Manager at AWS Thailand.
