Smart City Asia Pacific Awards 2018 – Opens for Public Voting

IDC Government Insights Asia Pacific opens public voting in its search for the top smart city initiatives in the region (excluding Japan) for the fourth straight year.

Out of over 180 smart city project submissions coming from local governments and technology suppliers in Asia Pacific, only the top 48 projects were shortlisted by IDC as a finalist in at least one of 12 functional smart city strategic domains measured in its annual Smart City Asia Pacific Awards (SCAPA).

Voting period will commence from 17- 31 May 2018. Citizens are encouraged to participate by voting for the top projects at IDC’s Smart City Website

All finalists will compete with other outstanding projects through IDC analysts’ benchmarking, public voting, and judging from an International Advisory Council. In 2018, 50% of the weightage will come IDC analysts’ benchmarking, the public votes accounting for 25%, while the remaining 25% will be based on the assessment of an International Advisory Council. IDC will declare one winner under each smart city strategic domain.

The Smart City Asia Pacific Awards (SCAPA) was created to identify, benchmark and publicly vote on the best projects each year across 12 functional smart city strategic domains. It is an intensive six-month process that tracks and evaluates hundreds of smart city initiatives in Asia Pacific.

The award categories are:

1. Administration 
Recognizing the best initiatives in Digital administration including (but not limited to) Smart City platforms, intelligent ERP including the political operations at the legislative layer.

2. Civic Engagement 
Recognizing the best project/ initiative in civic and community engagement and transparency, including (but not limited to) Open Data, city portals, and 311 services.

3. Digital Equity and Accessibility 
Recognizing the best project/initiative in the area of digital equity and accessibility including (but not limited to) technologies for ADA compliance, innovations in accessibility services public WiFi, and other projects focused on under served communities.

4. Education 
Recognizing the best project/ initiatives in education, including (but not limited to) eLearning and online learning, learning management systems, smart classrooms, and smart campuses for K-12 and higher education.

5. Public Health and Social Services 
Recognizing the best project/ initiatives, including (but not limited to) data-driven and mobile solutions for social services workers, and analytic tools to assess the needs of at-risk populations and ensure they are getting proper care.

6. Public Safety 
Recognizing the best project/ initiatives for ensuring public safety, including (but not limited to) emergency services such as early warning systems, and 911 systems and policing such as real-time crime centers, body worn video, and visual surveillance and analysis.

7. Smart Buildings 
Recognizing the best project/ initiatives including (but not limited to) automation and systems integration to measure, monitor, control, and optimize building operations and to use energy in the most efficient and cost-effective way.

8. Smart Water 
Recognizing the best projects/ initiatives including (but not limited to) reducing challenges and costs related to water stress, systemic inefficiency, and water loss while improving asset management and customer services.

9. Sustainable Infrastructure 
Recognizing the best projects/ initiatives in including (but not limited to) environmental monitoring, energy conservation, smart lighting, smart trash bins, smart meters, and smart grids.

10. Tourism, Arts, Libraries, Culture, Open Spaces 
Recognizing the best project/initiative in the area of tourism, arts and culture, libraries, cultural events and open, green spaces including (but not limited to) smart kiosks, interactive events and experiences, connected museums, digital libraries and intelligent event management.

11. Transportation 
Recognizing the best use of technology in the field of transportation, including (but not limited to) autonomous cars, connected vehicles, smart public transit, smart parking, smart infrastructure, s intelligent traffic management, multi-modal transport hubs, journey planning and ride-hailing/ride-sharing services.

12. Urban Planning and Land Use 
Recognizing the best projects/ initiatives including (but not limited to) digital tools for permitting, zoning, inspections, licensing and urban planning.
